School of Science & Technology

The University of Northampton School of Science and Technology is one of the world's leading specialist institutions for the study of non-destructive testing, vertical transportation technology, resource efficiency, leather and biomaterials technology. We offer a wide range of university courses, from HNDs and degrees to postgraduate and professional qualifications. Our courses cover three main subject areas:

• Engineering Technology incorporating Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, along with specialist areas of expertise including lift engineering and non-destructive testing. Our non-destructive testing programmes are designed in partnership with the British Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT).

• Computing and Immersive Technology including computer networks, graphics and visualisation, internet technology and security and software engineering.

• Environmental and Material Sciences, including Biology, Geography, Wastes Management, Leather and Biomaterials Technology, Conservation Ecology

Our curriculum portfolio is tailored to meet the demands of industry, ensuring our students have the knowledge and skills they require for a successful career. Our engineering students are highly regarded by employers and the University has strong links within the Engineering industry thanks to the long established Northants Engineering Training Partnership.

The Northants Engineering Training Partnership (NETP)

Formed in 1989 by The University of Northampton, British Timkin, Cosworth, Cummins, Express Lifts and KAB  Seating, the NETP was designed to create a pool of industry ready Engineers.

Each year the NETP partners provide paid industry placements for a number of hand selected Engineering students studying at The University of Northampton.  These students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have accumulated on a number of projects across a variety of organisational areas.  For the student, this is a fantastic chance to experience different organisational cultures, apply their skills in real life situations and learn from world class Engineers.

For the NETP partners, it’s the perfect opportunity to find students with the skills and acumen they require to undertake key projects within the business.  It’s also a chance to identify potential future employees - individuals that can make a real difference to a company’s bottom line and who fit in with the company culture.  In fact, over 90% of placement students go one to find employment with one of their placement companies.
