Civil Engineering brings together the traditional and cutting edge aspects of the subject to generate high-quality research in the next generation of essential facilities such as sustainable building construction, roads, bridges, tunnels, flood protection, waste recycling and construction management.

Our technical facility, the Joseph Bazalgette Laboratories, has recently seen considerable investment in new equipment. This allows students and researchers alike the chance to use some of the latest technology to develop innovative materials, test a variety of construction and natural engineering materials under controlled conditions. Innovative structural design and medium and large scale structure tests are possible using our structural laboratory.
